Our forefathers designed our federal government 233 years ago to include: rule of law, a monetary system, national infrastructure, and national defense. Later Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid were added, which are also core to our federal government.
All other federal government departments should be spun-out to the private sector or returned to the states.
Government should not be directly involved in managing or funding private sector jobs.
Thomas Jefferson reminded fellow citizens their happiness and prosperity rested upon a “wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them free to regulate their own pursuit of industry and improvement and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned.”
To shrink the deficit we need to lower government expenses, which equates to smaller government. Plus we need to increase revenues. The best way to increase revenues is to lower taxes on small businesses so small business can create jobs which will increase tax revenues. This is a proven model which has worked throughout history.
Lower taxes encourage economic growth in small businesses which increases jobs and, in turn, increases tax revenues because there are more employed people paying income taxes. Plus, more jobs mean lower unemployment, which lessens the need for social programs as more citizens become self-sufficient.
We need to make tax rates truly fair, striking a balance between securing adequate revenue to meet the needs of government, incentivizing individuals and businesses to work hard and invest, and minimizing the tax rate for those less fortunate to allow them to be productive citizens.
I support policies and legislation which provides an environment for economic growth, provides incentive for investment, and increases the number of jobs in Illinois and the USA.
As a small business owner with domestic and international business experience, I will make a difference in Washington and here in the Eighth District. I will work closely with our state representatives to create an environment which is pro business and creates jobs. In the last ten years, 700,000 people have left our state mainly because they couldn’t find jobs.
Currently, Illinois ranks as the 48th worst state for starting and growing a business. A few of the key factors for Illinois’ low rating were: inheritance tax, lack of right to work, liability/tort system and property tax.
I can help on a federal level making sure our national laws do not penalize our local small businesses. Recent bills passed, such as Cap and Trade, will negatively affect Illinois small business.
From a national vantage point, I will work with representatives in other states to encourage their state businesses to set up subsidiaries in the Eighth District, and therefore, try to bring more businesses and more jobs back to Illinois.
As a member of the U.S. Congress, I will have access to representatives in China, India, Canada, Central America, South America, the EU and emerging markets, all wanting to set up operations in the U.S. Why not the Eighth district? Why not Illinois?
Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are the cornerstones of the United States Declaration of Independence. Our liberty must be protected as it is the core behind all social issues.
As more and more federal services are enacted, our liberties are reduced. I support smaller government with fewer restrictions on our liberties.
I support a strong military to defend our country and non-military action to achieve world peace.
War should always be a last resort. I believe as Tolstoy described, “The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.” I believe in a strong military to protect our country and assets and a military which leads with strength. I do not support the U.S. role as the world’s policeman. The U.S. needs to be an active and equivalent participant in the United Nations, NATO, and other world organizations promoting peace.
Health care costs and availability are a problem for many Americans today. The best long term solution is to allow the fair and free market of supply and demand to find the best solution for all Americans. This requires four major reforms that must be advanced at the federal level:
Melissa and I had the opportunity to live in Switzerland when our children were young. Switzerland is one of the safest countries in the world. From the ages of 20 to 40 the majority of Swiss men serve in the Swiss military reserves. Their guns are stored in their homes.
I will vote against any legislation which funds abortions; against any legislation which forces doctors to aid in abortions; and for any legislation which supports women considering abortion to enable and empower them to choose life.
I will not support amending the Constitution to make abortion illegal from the moment of conception, since many main stream religions, even within what appears to be similar religious traditions, will reach very different moral conclusions regarding abortion. Some religions are pro-life at conception and some are pro-choice at conception. Putting policy before religion is contrary to the First Amendment.
Thus, it is not the federal government's place to tell a woman what she can do with her body in the first trimester. The choice is between the mother, her religious beliefs and trusted advisers (husband, parents, friends, minister, priest, rabbi, church, etc.). Within the first trimester most religious beliefs are in-line and take a pro-life position. To be clear, at no time do any main stream religions support abortion as a form of birth control.
Smaller Government
Our forefathers designed our federal government 233 years ago to include: rule of law, a monetary system, national infrastructure, and national defense. Later Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid were added, which are also core to our federal government.
All other federal government departments should be spun-out to the private sector or returned to the states.

Job Creation
I support policies and legislation which provides an environment for economic growth, provides incentive for investment, and increases the number of jobs in Illinois and the USA.

Defending our Nation
I support a strong military to defend our country and non-military action to achieve world peace.

Health Care
Health care costs and availability are a problem for many Americans today. The best long term solution is to allow the fair and free market of supply and demand to find the best solution for all Americans. This requires four major reforms that must be advanced at the federal level:
- Lower the barriers to entry for health care providers of all types, while still requiring an acceptable level of quality.
- Implement government policies that foster, not inhibit, the supply of health care services and goods of all types.
- Develop laws to radically change our tort system.
- Provide health care insurance through private sector insurance companies to all Americans similar to auto insurance which is based on risks and exposures.
Gun Control
While I personally do not own a firearm, I am grateful to live in a nation where my neighbors have the right to. Gun ownership is a right of the people to protect themselves. I completely support the 2nd Amendment, and without reservation, support the Illinois Rifle Association’s efforts in the pending McDonald v. Chicago Supreme Court case. One should not lose their 2nd Amendment Rights based on which city they choose to reside.Melissa and I had the opportunity to live in Switzerland when our children were young. Switzerland is one of the safest countries in the world. From the ages of 20 to 40 the majority of Swiss men serve in the Swiss military reserves. Their guns are stored in their homes.
Abortion
I am pro-life and hold all human life sacred.I will vote against any legislation which funds abortions; against any legislation which forces doctors to aid in abortions; and for any legislation which supports women considering abortion to enable and empower them to choose life.
I will not support amending the Constitution to make abortion illegal from the moment of conception, since many main stream religions, even within what appears to be similar religious traditions, will reach very different moral conclusions regarding abortion.
