Why John is Running for the US Congress

It is an honor to be a citizen of this awesome country. As Americans, we are the "best of the best" . . . stewards of the greatest society mankind has ever known . . . keepers of the American Dream . . . a dream that says with hard work, thrift and ingenuity every citizen can achieve prosperity in a safe and comfortable place to live, with the opportunity to earn a decent living for themselves and their families, and to secure for their children and grandchildren the opportunity to achieve the same.
Today we are heading for a crossroads. Our current administration's policies and agendas are steering us in a frightening direction. If we fail to change this direction, we risk destroying the American Dream.

I am running for U.S. Congress because I am fearful of the course our country is taking. I'm not a politician by trade; my training and experience come from the business world, where I've excelled in both large and small business. I believe my experiences have prepared me in a way no political office could, and that we need to start applying the same principles that work for running a business — especially a small business — to running our country.

As a small business owner, I have decided to stand up, get involved and, if elected, have a meaningful impact on our country’s direction. I believe we need to take quick action to keep this country in its world-leading position:
No matter how great our country, it will not survive our mounting debt burden.

No matter how great our country, it cannot survive without creating new sources of revenue and growth--which can best be achieved by supporting small businesses.
No matter how great our country, it cannot survive being funded by the few to pay for the many.

Recently, I visited our State Capitol in Springfield with Senator Dan Duffy. We toured the Old House chambers and there, in the corner of that grand room, sat an historic walk-in vault. In this vault the Illinois Treasury once stored its tax dollars. The government only spent money if it was in the vault. Wow! What a concept!

Our U.S. spending trend is out of control. To complicate matters, our revenues (tax dollars) are decreasing and our government continues to take over and manage jobs which should be left in the private sector.

Washington needs a small business perspective – one that is similar to running your personal finances:

  • Spend only the money you have and pay down your debt.
  • Live within your means.
  • Constantly work toward growing your sources of income.

As a U.S. Congressman:

  • I will not vote for tax increases. The way to increase revenue is to lower taxes so businesses can flourish, thereby creating increased revenue.
  • I will not vote for increased spending if it is not essential to our core government responsibilities – rule of law, infrastructure, monetary, Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid or defense.
  • I will vote for changes in the laws that will reduce restrictions on small businesses.
  • I will vote to shrink our federal government.
  • I will work to rid our federal budget of frivolous spending.

I am committed to making a difference in Washington and here in the Eighth District. I will work closely with our state representatives to create an environment which is pro business and pro jobs. From my national vantage point, I will work with businesses in other states to encourage them to set up subsidiaries in the Eighth District. As a member of the U.S. Congress, I will have access to businesses in China, the European Union, and emerging markets wanting to set up operations in the U.S. Why not bring them to the Eighth district? Why not to Illinois?

We are heading for a crossroads and NOW is the time to change our direction. I want to be your champion to re-direct the course of Washington and to grow jobs in the Eighth District. I am not a professional politician; I am a small business owner who wants to make a difference. I need your help to make this happen.

Together we can alter the course – together we can save the American Dream.
